“Over my years of training and surgical practice I have developed a greater understanding of the precise interplay between form and function as it pertains to the musculoskeletal system. Whether reconstructing a prosthetic joint or repairing the damaged bone and tissue from a traumatic injury, restoring normal anatomy and biomechanics is critical to obtaining the best functional outcome.”
Dr. Jando is involved in several innovative projects to improve the delivery of orthopedic care to patients within the Coastal Health Region. He is a physician lead for the Joint Replacement Access Clinic (JRAC), a care model that has been adopted at other sites around the province. This model has streamlined the perioperative care of joint replacement patients by aligning hospital resources with those of the surgeons and various allied healthcare professionals.
More recently, Dr. Jando has been involved in a collaborative initiative to improve communication between healthcare providers and to redesign the standard referral and consultation processes. Key components include centralized referral and triage, integration with electronic medical record systems, an orthopedic telephone advice line, and expedited patient assessments through the Regional Orthopedic Consultation Clinic. This widely acclaimed project is ongoing with a roll-out of completed phases already underway.
“Living and working within Vancouver’s majestic Northshore has allowed me to participate in the many year-round recreational pursuits and better appreciate the impact that injury and disability can have on one’s lifestyle. My greatest satisfaction as a surgeon is the ability to return my patients to a healthy, pain free and active lifestyle so they can continue to be productive at work and at play. I feel privileged to serve the Coastal Region and its population, a career that is both challenging and rewarding.”
