Orthopedic Surgeon

Born and raised on Vancouver Island, Dr. Jando then spent the majority or his post-secondary education in Montreal and Toronto. There he completed his medical degree, followed by a surgical residency in orthopaedics, and a fellowship in hip and knee arthroplasty. Eventually Dr. Jando returned to his roots in British Columbia where he completed additional fellowship training at the Vancouver General Hospital in orthopaedic trauma, and then lower limb reconstruction.
“Over my years of training and surgical practice I have developed a greater understanding of the precise interplay between form and function as it relates to the musculoskeletal system. Whether reconstructing a prosthetic joint or repairing the damaged bone and tissue from a traumatic injury, restoring normal anatomy and biomechanics is critical to obtaining the best functional outcome.”
Dr. Jando is a Clinical Instructor for the Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia. This role involves the education of medical students and orthopedic residents from training programs across Canada. Dr. Jando’s academic pursuits and research interests have been recognized with several publications and presentations. The wide-ranging topics have included basic science research, outcomes following major orthopaedic trauma, and book chapters he has authored on advanced surgical techniques, such as minimally invasive hip replacement and complex limb reconstruction.
Dr. Jando has been based at Lions Gate Hospital since 2004 and is a past Head of the Division of Orthopaedics. He is currently the Medical Director at Pacific Orthopaedics and Sport Medicine (POSM), a post he has held since 2009. Dr. Jando tirelessly promotes the mission of POSM to provide timely access to comprehensive and integrated musculoskeletal care. He is involved in several quality improvement projects. These projects aim to improve the delivery of orthopaedic services for everyone in the Coastal Health Region through innovation, evidence-based practices, collaboration, and multi-disciplinary care pathways.
“Living and working within Vancouver’s majestic Northshore has allowed me to participate in the many year-round recreational pursuits and better appreciate the impact that injury and disability can have on one’s lifestyle. My greatest satisfaction as a surgeon is the ability to return my patients to a healthy, pain free and active lifestyle so they can continue to be productive at work and at play. I feel privileged to serve the Coastal Region and its population, a career that is both challenging and rewarding.”
