Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a cutting-edge alternative to Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), designed to provide a more gradual, long-lasting healing effect. The main difference between PRP and PRF lies in their preparation and the type of platelet concentrate they deliver. Both treatments start with a blood draw followed by centrifugation, but the PRF preparation process uses lower centrifuge speeds, which results in a fibrin-rich clot that contains a more natural form of platelets, white blood cells, and growth factors.
PRF provides a slower, sustained release of growth factors, with effects that can last for several months compared to PRP. The fibrin mesh produced in PRF acts as a scaffold, supporting tissue regeneration over time and allowing for more prolonged healing. Because PRF does not rely on anticoagulants, it is considered a “natural” method of treatment with less potential for irritation or side effects compared to PRP.
At POSM, we selected a protocol to ensure that PRF is prepared with the highest precision for optimal healing benefits. While PRP provides a faster, more intense peak of healing, PRF offers a gentler, longer-lasting therapeutic effect—making it a worthy choice for patients looking for sustained improvement in chronic conditions or post-surgical healing.
The entire procedure takes about 45 minutes and is performed in our office:
